Quick report

We traveled in low elevations (BTL), checking snowline and access. Measured 40-70 centimeters of total snow height between 4,500 and 5,500 feet. All new snow from the past week. It appears there was no snow in below 5,000 feet in this area following the January dry spell. We found surface hoar in protected areas. Ski penetration 20 centimeters. Boot penetration 40 centimeters. A hardness profile showed consistent fist hard snow at the surface down to 4 finger harness until a 2 centimeter knife hard crust at the ground. We noted the early formation of wind slabs on northerly aspects up to 15cm thick. No signs of instability. Temperatures ranged from 28 to 32 F with scattered skies. Wind blew moderate out of the SSW. No precipitation observed.
