Poor Snowpack Structure

Afternoon late start up Cardiff Fork to take in the views, and plan to dabble on low angle slopes off Montreal Hill and the lower run-outs of the Ivories. Many groups coming out of the area reported skiing George's bowl, Mid Ivory from the ridge, and all were mentioning turns seen in Cardiac Pass/Bowl and Holy Toledo-- bold, hopefully not foolish. Our goal area was well-travelled. Found some leftovers and a few rocks on an east facing run-out from the Ivory Flakes before daylight ran out.

Pit results: 50cm depth on East facing slope. Large sugar snow crystals on the bottom 35cm, smaller crystals denser layer top 15cm. ECT14, fracturing at the junction between these layers without frank propagation.
