Fast running sluff that entrained snow knocked me off my feet, but did not carry me. It was a wake up call. Just cuz the ava-rose has been green for weeks doesn't mean you can ski anything. Sluff is a red flag. When you see it, stay away from narrow steeps with constrictions that would concentrate the sluff. Even if not buried, sluff can take you through rocks and trees. Admittedly, even with that advice, I would have been caught, because I didn't know the exact type of terrain I was getting into.
