February gave March and April the slip and we went straight into…May? We headed up to Mt. Brown LO keen to keep our angles low and maybe find something to derime. Despite the tropical conditions (or perhaps because of them) the first 1/2 mile of the Sperry trail is regrowing some small glaciers. Microspikes at a minimum will make for much less hectic walking on the water ice. The lower sections of the LO trail when it branches off from the Sperry trail are relatively melted out—still skinable but quite difficult to descend on skis. Up higher on the SW aspects we ascended and descended, the corn was ripe by 11:00. Our descent several hours later was punchy, wet, wrenching, and would have been alarming had the angles been any steeper. Temps were way above freezing. Only a breath of wind at the LO. No precip or clouds. Big shout out to whoever has done the work to keep the trail free of deadfall. Impressive!
Avalanche
Lots of older slides mentioned elsewhere in observations. All new slides were wet loose point release, a number of which were on south aspects in Cattle Queen.
