Quick report
Our group toured into Huntington Ravine with the goal of making observations for the following day. We had written off skiing any type of avalanche terrain for the day. We decided to take the time to dig a hasty pit to see how deep/reactive the newly forming windslabs are and to see how settled the snowpack was from the previous days. On our approach into the ravine, we had 2-3" of new snow, high winds and little visibility. We took a few moments to wait for visibility while we located a safe place to dig. There were no signs of instability approaching our test site. @ 4100ft on an Eastern aspect, 170cm snow depth (dug to 1 meter), we found a 1F hard, 20cm windslab on top 5cm thick 4F layer over a stable snowpack. Our hasty pit had results of CT3, ECTP11. It does seem that below this 20cm windslab, the warming on Thursday did settle the snowpack in the floor of the ravine from loading earlier in the week.
