Quick report
We toured up to ~9200 ft in the Early Morning Couloir on North Sister. Hiking in from Pole Creek we were able to transition to skinning at ~6500 ft in the Soap Creek drainage. Snow conditions were firm and variable until we entered the couloir. Inside the couloir we found soft wind affected snow that ranged from ~3-25 cms deep and was 4F-1F in hardness resting on top of a thick melt freeze crust. At ~9100 ft we found the melt freeze crust to thin and it was resting on top of weak faceted snow. In hand shears we were seeing broken and planar shears upon isolation and an ECT propagated upon isolation as well. This gave us enough uncertainty in stability to turn around.
