Highwood Pass

Took our skis for a nice walk in the Pocaterra area today. Left the car with the lowest of expectations, which proved to be the right approach. We skinned from the edge of the parking lot to close to the edge of the treeline, then loaded them into our packs and wandered around for a little bit. Turned around at 2300m where there was a very variable 20-30cm HS. Heavy, wet snow started around 10.45am, accumulating at roughly 5cm/hr as a guess. -1c in the parking lot at 08.45. The area needs- at a minimum- another 60cm of settled snow before it’s even close to skiable but was nice to enjoy some fresh air, snacks, and coffee in good company.
