Skied London Ridge and Goat Ridge trees from Jan 3 - 7 and observed storm snow poorly bonding to underlying layers of surface hoar in open trees. Storm slabs triggered by skiers varied from 20 - 60 cm and we found between 1600 - 1800 m elevation. Although triggered easily by ski cutting and propagating to surrounding open trees areas, the slabs did not run more than 50 - 75 m.
A large natural avalanche was observed on the NE alpine face of London Ridge on January 6. Crown estimated to approximately 1m and appeared to have stepped down from a storm slab of approximately 30 cm visible above.
