Observation: Blacks Fork

Today I traveled into the West Fork of Blacks Fork for a recon. As expected much of the terrain above 11,000 was hit hard by the earlier wind, especially slopes facing west to north, with the latter cross loaded. East facing slopes, however, were creamy and dreamy even up high and the valley bottom had a layer of loud-ish powder on a supportable layer. The snowpack in the valley bottom was anywhere from 3'-6' deep. Overall things felt very solid and while the sledding wasn't exactly "ride it if it's white," it was close.

Today I traveled into the West Fork of Blacks Fork for a recon. East facing slopes, however, were creamy and dreamy even up high. The valley bottom had a layer of loud-ish powder sitting on a supportable layer; sled tracks were only 6" deep. The snowpack in the valley bottom was anywhere from 3'-6' deep. Overall things felt very solid and while the sledding wasn't exactly "ride it if it's white," it was close.
