Quick Observation
Skinned up to the alpine Mt. Hector west side/bowl. Snow at and below tree line on west aspects had 15 cms of powder on top of ~50 cms of facets. The skinning was difficult as you would push through essentially to ground. As we hit tree line and emerged onto a southern aspect (line 8 in ski bum guidebook) the snow became a bit firmer but still fluffy before becoming entirely wind affected along the ridge/contour you climb up to the summit ridge. The line listed in the guidebook starting at the summit ridge (8/9 in guidebook) barely had enough snow to be skied from the summit ridge so we opted to ski down from below the main pitch heading south before cutting right towards our ski track and finishing out the skiers right drainage. We found good turns above the trees with heavy snow on southern aspects. Some rollerballs along the surface but none were gaining mass.
