Whumping heard on low angle slopes. Widespread cracking observed on the east facing aspect that slid. Slab avalanche. This E aspect was the leeward side with a corniced ridge.
Avalanche
Remotely triggered slab avalanche from a sage vantage point on the ridge. We had toured this two days prior to the storm 1/17-1/18 and the slope appeared wind-loaded so we stayed clear. Stomping on the ridge induced widespread cracking that propagated across the slope (E aspect). From a distance, it appeared to be 1-2’ in thickness, 30-50’ across. Most of the slope did not avalanche, so we did not investigate further.
