Griffin Butte

Observed about a dozen separate "whumps" in N, NE, and E facing terrain between 6400 and 7200 on the east side of Griffin Butte. Hard to estimate propagation, but when cracking was also observed in conjunction with one of the whumps it propagated about thirty feet. Did a quick test profile at 7000 NE. HS 90. CT5 SC and ECTP 11 35cm down on the Superbowl (2/8) layer, which was 3-5mm SH and smaller FCsf. Below roughly 6700 on N, NE the 2/8 interface was a crust, presumably from rain at the warm start to the storm. There was widespread wind affect on the broad, open, NE facing ridge where we put our skin track. It ranged from dapple (on the up canyon lee side) to breakable wind crust on the windward side. This pattern seems to have been from down valley winds maybe on on the 17th. Did get some isolated cracking in the wind slab, but couldn't find a test slope steep enough to get it to move. We avoided breakovers steeper than 30 degrees.
