North Fork of the Salmon

Full ob and media to come AM Wednesday. 

Toured through mid elevation into upper elevation today with the goal of finding weak snow to see the worst of any persistent weak layer problem. I found the uppermost melt-freeze crust from Christmas to be the only layer of concern with poor snowpack structure but inconsistent snowpit test results.  1 out of 4 ECT tests in the same pit showed propagation across the column, and jumping on similar slopes did not result in audible collapses or whumfs. That being said, there is a layer of small faceted crystals directly below the crust and I do not fully trust this layer. 

Small fresh wind slabs along ridgelines at upper elevation but these were easy to identify and avoid. Unlikely these slabs would result in an avalanche larger than D1.5

Below 6000', there is minimal snow and avalanches are unlikely unless running down from higher terrain. 

Cracking specific to freshly wind loaded slopes.
