Toured up Gash on Saturday and found fantastic snow conditions. Weather was blustery with moments of significant wind but also moments of stillness. Temps under 30 the entire day; clouds and snow rolled in and out. Observed no recent avalanches, had one whumpf at about 7400 ft. Dug a pit @ 8100 on an ENE slope. Found 240cm of snow (we believe we were on some wind drift so other locations might have significantly less), got ECTN @ 14, ECTN @30. The layers that broke were very hard to distinguish, and must have been different wind loading events. The ice layer was buried down to 170cm with no facets on either side. We skied the bowl and treed ridge, the snow was true cold smoke.
