Quick report
Parked at normal winter parking and headed up the road and trail with moderately warm temperatures. The trail had poor coverage up to 5500-6000’. At 7000’ and above we experienced more winter-like weather with new snow and strong, gusting winds, which increased throughout the day at upper elevations. While we didn’t observe any significant avalanche activity, we did start to see the beginnings of wind slabs developing along exposed ridge lines. We were able to get some snow to move over the slick and icy bed surface with ski cuts.
Avalanche
Released a couple small wind loaded areas along exposed ridge lines. The snow hadn’t formed a cohesive slab yet, but was heading in that direction throughout the day.
