Quick report

I continue to observe propagation in the 12/13 layer within shallow snowpacks in my snowpits. I also identified some smaller natural avalanches in subtly wind-loaded terrain within the mid-elevation band.

Snowpack

I dug on a northwest-facing slope of Fox Peak at 8,600 feet and found the 12/13 layer 43 cm below the surface. Large column tests produced two propagating failures (ECTP16) beneath a thin crust on a layer of facets.

The crown is heavily filled in but appears to be on a similar slope to another reported avalanche in this drainage. The time of release is uncertain.
