We observed obscured skies, with light precip (S1), moderate winds with strong to extreme gusts on ridgetops and also in forested areas. There was a wind slab forming on the surface in N, NE slopes. Hand shear tests revealed a cohesive slab about 10 - 15 cm depending on the location. The snow below below the slab was weak, storm snow that was very deep and unconsolidated. We didn't experience any cracking, collapsing or whoomphing. We dug a pit on a NE aspect to explore the interface between the old and new snow and to determine if the new snow was bonding to the old snow layer. We had no significant results in the ECT or PST, but we did have easy results with the CT in the wind affected storm snow (10 cm from the top layer), and we did get moderate results (CT13 sudden collapse) on the old/new snow interface.
