Quick report

We started at about 8:45 from the Tahoe Meadows parking lot and ascended Ophir Peak via Chickadee Ridge and the north/northwest slope of Ophir Peak. Once we crossed over to this slope at about 8800 ft, we put on our ski crampons and had good bite into the frozen (but still consolidated) snow surface. From Ophir Peak, we skied the far north side of the east facing bowl aiming for solar snow on the east/southeast facing slopes. Refreeze was minimal, but was still supportable at 9:50 for classic spring turns to 7,800 ft elevation. Things were getting warm quickly by 10 AM, and ski conditions would have been much more variable and sticky if we were descending at that point. The skin out was over mature well consolidated snow that wasn’t much affected by the warm temps.
