Skied the East Bowl of Jake's today from about 8700'. New snow amounts ranged from less than an inch at the trailhead, to 3-4" above 8500'. Down low, this new snow fell on dirt and bushes, but where previous snow cover existed, it fell on a melt-freeze crust. This melt-freeze crust was punchy below about 7500', but supportable above that, and actually made for pretty excellent ski conditions at the upper elevations. No slab development, or any signs of instability were noted today, and although moderate to strong winds were moving snow, there was no deposition occurring in this broad terrain feature. Also of note, snow cover was still extremely thin below about 7400', and on all sunny aspects, making access to the line quite a chore, filled with lots of manzanita skinning/skiing, and even some crawling.
