Cloudy day with mild temperatures. SW winds were strong along the upper ridges above 8500'.
Snowpack
We went to Rubicon Peak today to make observations. Snow coverage around 7000' is limited with mostly all rain falling here over the weekend storm. As we moved up in elevation the soft surface rain crust became firmer refrozen rain crust. This crust extended up to our high point of 8800' and most likely went up to at least 9000'. The rain crust did get thinner with elevation, but was still very firm. We looked at the Jan 31 facet layer along the way up on our tour. Below 8000', these facets were wet. At 8800' where we dug a test pit, these facets were dry and just under a 1'' surface rain crust. Above 8500', a very light dusting of new snow existed on the firm rain crust snow surface.
