Collapsing
specific

On Friday, May 3rd, my partner and I were on day 2 of the isolation traverse heading up to the col on The Coccyx mountain ridge line when the leader started to experience collapsing under his feet. The area here is steep with sparse trees. We felt it might make a good spot for surface hoar to have formed before the recent 2/27-2/29 snowfall. No avy was triggered. We got up and over the col, slid down to the newhalem creek drainage, and began to skin up the drainage. The leader once again experienced this collapsing on a below 35 degree slope with sparse trees. No avy was triggered. We then stuck to more treed low-angle terrain and never experienced this again through our exit at highway 20.
