Quick report
- Collapsing
- isolated
Observed very low snow coverage under 4k’ and wet loose conditions in the open NTL as the day progressed, and ran into very chunky old wet loose debris under the trees, which turned into low coverage unconsolidated snowpack out in the open. I made it up to 4.4k’, but turned around. Many south-facing cornices and overhangs had run prior to my coming up there, and all of the pencil hard crust along the ridge that was difficult to get purchase in with my MSR Lightning Ascent snowshoe crampons. Sliding off a cliff (by either misstepping or getting pushed by rollerballs), and punching through boulder fields were a big concern today. There were a lot more glider cracks down low than I was expecting too, which was surprising.
Avalanche
D1 wet loose off trees just as I was exiting the area around noon.
