HogsbacBergschrund, Coalman Headwalls, DK’s Tarn, WRG’s Headwall & Crevasse Field
Quick report
Mostly bluebird afternoon (some clouds and SW winds picked up later) after a hazy Lifts morning (slight smokiness seemed to persist down in the valleys, esp to the East). Slightly meandering and scenic route skin from top of Palmer 1:30pm. Arrived ‘schrund 5:30pm. Mix of spine and crevasse-dodging face ski across tarn to swimming hole 6:00pm. Bootpack down edge of scree field adjacent to fumarole to White River Headwall 6:45pm. Followed tracks (thx USFS? See pics) to ideal wall-hugging exit at 9.4K’ish, which then provided phenomenal snow-only ski skirting crevasse field back to top of palmer and on down fresh groomers all the way to gully meltout (thx Timberline ops!) just before PCT x-ing @ 6050’…in August of an El Nino year. Snow conditions very stable and fun throughout (thoughtu Lower WCR team triggered some 130pm shedding from trax obs from afar, but later vantage showed no debris at bottom, and they didn’t mention anything - HUGE kudos, tho in hindsight sorry for prior loss noted on Upper WCR. R.I.P.
