Quick report
Light/moderate snow showers all day, couple of sun-breaks around 2pm. At pass-level, the new snow was already upside down before 9 am (skinning at Silver Fir Saturday night offered superlative fast cold-snow skinning). Natural loose-snow avalanches had run about as far as they often go, notably crossing in multiple locations the waterfall/PCT skintrack into Kendall Trees. As we ascended toward Kendall, storm snow moved easily on a storm layer. From 3.8-4.2k, all of the snow since Saturday was poorly bonded to a crust on west-facing aspects, even in the trees. Seemed like the same crust-character as we observed in Snake Dance yesterday at Alpental. Tree-skiing was settled powder. Newfallen snow-density increased through the day, capping the blower powder with Cascadian cream-cheese icing. Small snow rollers rolled quite far after the upside-down snowpack was established. Skied treed slopes to 35-40 degrees. Sluffs ran in the new snow, but not far. Ski quality remained excellent as we left the field around 2pm. Commonwealth luge-track was smooth and fun.
Avalanche
Numerous loose-snow natural avalanches, including a few that crossed the high-waterfall route into Kendall Trees, both early in the day and after noon.
