While the snow surfaces appear and ski/ride like corn snow with proper timing of thaw, these recent wet slab and wet loose avalanches indicate that the recent new snow hasn’t fully transitioned to typical spring melt/freeze snow.
Avalanche
Several wet slab avalanches observed in Zigzag Canyon, on both easterly and westerly aspects, around 7,000-7,500’. Likely released naturally late yesterday. Up to D2 in size, though all were somewhat shallow. None failed deeper than the storm snow of the past week. We also observed wet loose avalanche debris from yesterday afternoon below a number of steep slopes across the south side of the mountain, from 6,000’ up to 11,000’.
