Needle Ridge

Intermittent clouds and sun throughout the day. Light flurries at times. Cloud cover increased and winds grew stronger at ridgetop late afternoon (~1500).

Variable snow based on aspect and elevation, changing throughout the day as temps warmed and solar radiation affected S facing slopes. Ridgetops were wind and rime scoured with a hard crust and pockets of wind deposits. Snow below ridgetop had minor wind affect but overall was good quality, especially at lower elevations and sheltered terrain (great turns!) A breakable sun crust was present on S facing aspects, especially later in the day once cloud cover increased and surface temps dropped. Most significant obs was widespread SH, size 2.5-4.0 noted at elevations > ~1400m on all aspects, except at ridgetop where winds were stronger. SH did not deteriorate throughout the day with rising temps and solar radiation except on exposed S facing aspects.
