We did a few laps in the Southeast facing glades above Larix Lake today and found ok ski conditions. Supportive skinning with 20-40cm of ski pen in sheltered areas, quickly turning into 0-5cm in open areas above treeline. Even in sheltered areas, the surface snow was a upside down, with slabby/cakey snow on top and lower density snow below. No traditional signs of instability (whumphs and shooting cracks) while skinning in the glades, but the slabby surface snow was not confidence inspiring. We skinned around the east aspect of twin cairns to get back to the lifts and immediately began to experience whumphing and shooting cracks in any areas with enough snow for propagation. This area has a thin and variable snowpack and a variety of slabs for surface snow. I'm sure there's a good possibility of triggering windslabs on both Lee and windward slopes in the area at this time.
