Feather Peak: Fog and Sun

We rode the alpine slopes of Feather Peak as a group of 8. The snow had a good consistency on the morning approach and was well supporting our weight. Temperatures were about 3 degrees. Near the summit, we dug a quick and non-scientific snowpit with compression test on North / North-west slope which revealed an overall good consolidation of the snow pack. We did get some results on Hand-4 at around 15 cm from the surface and Elbow-5 around 40 cm down but in both cases it was a suble drop without any significant slide of the layers (please note this data is from memory, nothing was written down on the field). We did 2 runs to the summit and got fogged up on the second one with a complete white-out. As we were heading out, temperatures rose near +10 and the sun was strong. Snow held up nicely until 4pm where it became really wet near the bottom of the creek. On the way back around 6:30pm, we noticed from the road 4 natural wet snow avalanches near Fraser on South-ish facing slopes. It was a great and enjoyable day. Snow was quite nice on the North facing slopes and we have not felt or heard any sign of instability while skiing up or down. Please, do not forget your sunscreen :)
