Skinned up to 1970m above Barnes lake today where we found the rain crust from early December down 70 cm. We are watching this layer closely as its such a thick crust that its likely to be a player for a while. Found small facets above the crust that failed on our snowpack test. No Whumpfing or shooting cracks while we travelled but we stuck to small, low angle slopes to be on the safe side. Riding conditions were really good, we're patiently waiting for the snowpack to get used to all the new load before riding bigger terrain.
Snowed all day, mainly less than 1 cm per hour, with periods of 2 cm per hour. We got around 6 cm between 11 and 3. Light west wind with moderate gusts.
Extended column test failed and propagated across the column down 70 cm in 1 mm facets above the rain crust from December 4
