Quick Observation

Great conditions at Emerald Peak, we decided to make the most of the good weather to ride down from the peak. It was -24C in the parking lot in the morning, but it felt significantly warmer on the summit with the sun out and no wind. The snow was generally really stable, but watch out for shallow areas as they have significant faceting - See Snow Section. The lower section of the slide path looks to have been rode a lot lately, but the alpine was awesome with very few tracks.

Snowpack

We dug a pit on an East aspect at 2200m, the snowpack looked really good here and we didn't have any concerning results from a CT. However in the Alpine as we traversed the ridge, we did find a few shallow spots on route to the summit that had lots of facets. We experienced some cracking here and when making kickturns, the first few steps following the turn triggered a 1m long patch of snow to slide over the skin track, it propagated around 10 meters. Thankfully this was isolated to a few shallow areas and the snowpack everywhere else felt very stable.
