Snowpack

Skied the N face of Iago. Wind slab surprisingly far below the ridge and heavy powder down lower. Did a few hand shears which resulted in easy planar fractures at 15cm and 30cm deep. Another party reported similar results in a pit at 1600m on an N facing slope just below the ridge on Iago, with sudden planar results at both 15cm and 30cm, and mentioned that there was propagation in an ECT. They suspected a thin layer of buried surface hoar at the 30cm fracture, and reported the MF crust down at 55cm. I took a quick look for surface hoar as well. With no loupe on me it appeared to me to be a layer of stellars, but I could easily have been mistaken!
