Quick Observation

Ski toured up in the Cummings Creek // Koko Claims area today, above Mear Lake, to find a fun mixture of conditions, depending on the “wot the sun did” situation ;-) At 2100m (our sled drop), it was -3 and overcast (so, none of the recent-days intense solar warming), with 5cm of fresh snow on a supportive crust (in the open on solar aspects) which (along with the Low, Low, Low bulletin) gave us the confidence to tour up to the ridgeline at 2,550m. On our skin up we didn't see any signs of instability or any recent avalanches in the surround backcountry. There was some moderate wind at ridge top but there was no snow being moved around. We found good snow in the shaded dense trees suggesting north aspects might still be dry and good riding.
