Mt Green, Ross Path

Our crew summited Mt Green today. Surface snow got a little moist in the morning as the sun was peaking out of the cloud cover. As we gained elevation and the clouds rolled in, the snow remained cold, dry and frozen above 1800m. Below Ross Pass at 2200m, we observed a 1F, 15cm wind slab covering most of the drainage. Hand shear tests were hard and SP, failing at the interface below the wind slab. The bootpack up Ross Pass was in good shape except for the choke where the snowpack was shallow and faceted. A small wind "skin" (5cm) was present above the choke. Winds were moderate to strong from the SW. We didn't see much avalanche activity for the day as the solar input just wasn't there. On the ski down the north-facing slide path, we encountered wind-affected powder up high over a firm crust and saturated snow below 1800m.
