Today we went to Elkford and did not observe any new avalanches.
We sledded up to 2000 m and dug into a west facing sheltered slope. Last week we observed surface hoar on top of the snow, and today when we started to dig, we found the same layer buried under 40 cm of fresh snow from the last few days. We had a bit of a hunt in open terrain for the surface hoar but do not believe it’s present due to wind affecting that layer.
At 13:00 was -3, and wind was moderate from the NW. We noticed strong wind at ridgetop, and it was transporting a decent amount of snow. It was lightly snowing all day, accumulating another 4 cm while we were out and about.
Thanks to the Elkford Snowmobile Association for putting a fresh pass on the trails as we were sledding around - always appreciated!
