Toured up loop brook to Bonney Moraines. Crusty conditions off the skin track and impressive old debris from multiple paths running well into the creek. The elephant’s trunk was the most impressive with 10ft sidewalks gouging around the corner as the debris went downstream of loop creek for 150-200m.
Above 1600m the 15-30cm of dry surface snow skied quite well, especially in sheltered areas in the trees. Up on the moraines, there was lots of wind transport, but no slab properties as we travelled through. Surprisingly good skiing.
Expect to add some time for bootpacking through the debris on both ascent & descent. It was also easier to stay on the west side of the creek on descent to avoid walking through the debris of Abbott 6.
