Today we skied at Hankin. On the way in, we observed a size 2 avalanche on the Analog ski run that probably occurred within the last 48-72 hours. The snow was crusty from the recent warm temperatures in the parking lot, but around 1300 m, the crust was gone. We dug a snow pit just above the cabin and were able to produce hard propagating results in an extended column test down 70 cm on the Jan 26th crust.
We then skied to the top of Cabin Bowl and skied the north-facing line from ridgetop. Ski quality was decent with some wind effect in the snow to contend with, but overall, it was pretty good. Winds were gusting strongly from the west at the ridge top, transporting snow and feeding the wind slab problem.
