On March 18, I toured the West Ridges of Marmot to assess snowpack conditions following a recent wind event. I observed clear signs of wind loading, with severe wind erosion at upper elevations above 3,500 feet due to southeast winds. Visibility began to decrease as a low-pressure system approached, prompting me to end the tour early. I skied down from 3,900 feet, just below the rock pile. During the descent, I noticed widespread cracking on the northwest aspect of the gullies and signs of settling and shifting in the snowpack. To avoid terrain traps, I skied further north, just below marmot summit and safely returned to the van.
