Fairangel Valley

We found a wide variety of surfaces today. On solar slopes, we observed rollerballs and small sun-induced sluffs as rocky slopes basking in sunlight shed their snow. Traveling on southerly slopes, we found a moist snow surface, but saw no signs of prolonged surface wetting. Additionally, we found a variety of old wind-effect surfaces, including punchy windboard, wind crusts, and pockets of softer snow. In hand pits, they were unreactive; we could knock off small plates of wind-drifted snow in some spots. 

On the southerly slopes we traveled on, we found 3-4' of snow on the ground, with closer to 4-6' on the northerly slopes we skied. Overall conditions felt fairly stable, and our primary concerns was rogue wind slabs near ridgelines and spending too much time below steep rocky terrain basking in the sun. 

We saw small sun-induced wet slides in steep craggy terrain as they shed snowfall. Many of these happened yesterday, but we observed a few today as well. They were all small in size, with only a few entraining snow from the surrounding steep terrain. We also saw widespread roller balls on steep southerly slopes—again mostly coming from hanging patches of snow in craggy terrain.
