Quick report
Today was quite a difference from Tuesday. Weds. storm seemed to have brought more wind than new snow, with about 6-8" new as far as I could tell. About 100'-200' from ridge lines (~6700') there was a 2" breakable crust. Cornices are still minimal, probably due to the back and forth winds we've had up high. The winds hit most aspects, except the N NW trees, which skied excellent. From ~6,500, down to about 5000' the snow got deeper and better as I descended. Isolating a column, the snow collapsed while sawing the back wall, at about 8" and 19". This was a weak layer on Tuesday as well. I didn't dig deeper as this told me what I needed to know. The warm up that just happened overnight will add weight to the these reactive layers. Machines should be especially cautious given the extra weight, especially around rock bands and in steep, large, connected bowls as it seems there is potential for a large step-down avalanche. Keep aware on approaches for additional signs of instabilities forming.
