We decided to jump over to Ulita Ridge of the back side of Schweitzer. All my pits have been WNW or NNW this season. So for this we were SSW @ 5530’. Time was 11:45am, air temp was roughly 7 degrees. Slope angle 20 degrees. Snow depth @ 220cm . Buried surface hoar layer is still present, even below tree line in the SSW aspects. Plenty of collapsing on our tour out, however, no signs of shooting cracks. . We performed a shovel shear / CT / ECT. . Shovel shear slid at 172cm which was our buried surface hoar. We had a CT10Q2 also at the 172 (buried surface hoar depth) and a ECTP12Q2 at the buried surface hoar depth. . Buried surface hoar, from what we observed, is turning into faceted grains. . We had some great wiggles in that 25 degree zone today!
