Cold Lakes
Quick report
- Cracking
- isolated
- Cold Lakes lived up to the name with 5 degrees at the car to start the day. We decided to ski sunny aspects to stay warm. - We found 6" to 12" of new storm snow on top of the AR crust - We found surprising little slab character even on slopes that had been cross loaded. We did notice that there was more loading and wind effect midslope than at the ridge top. - We had isolated cracking underfoot - We saw effective loading along the crest of the Missions near treeline and above - We ran into some significant blow down on the summer trail up to the lakes.
Avalanche
We saw several recent dry loose avalanches that ran naturally in very steep terrain regardless of aspect. In one instance the loose dry avalanche triggered a D1.5 slab avalanche on the slope below. We also saw one D2 slab that ran recently on a east facing aspect near treeline. The crown was located partially down the slope.
