Observation: Alta Ski Area

After traveling across all upper elevations, I am pretty convinced we will see avalanches as soon as we see some snow. The snow surface is so weak at mid and upper elevations that it won't take much of a slab to get things going.

Starting to think forward, and the picture below is how I would map our current weak layer. By far the most dangerous aspects are above about 9,000' on northerly-facing slopes. However, it will be hard to determine where the weak snow and elevation begins once it storms. Therefore, a wide margin of safety will be in order.

Where there is snow, there are faceted grains. Otherwise, the snow is broken enough or dirt.
