Quick report
We bailed off a climb on a southern slope on Pastoral yesterday upon observing cohesive slab ~7" thick that appeared to be a solar/wind effect. A pit dug at the base of the line showed no slab, no reactions in an ECT, and a very cohesive bond between the storm snow and the interface. As pitch angle increased and we got higher in the line the slab became obvious and we retreated. There was still much softer storm snow below the slab. We did not observe cracking or collapsing within this slab. No noted instability/slabs on more northerly aspects off of Grandaddy and the saddle between the mountains. A southern chute on Magnum had slid, it was unclear to me what the trigger was or how old the slide was, likely at least a day.
