Eric and I conducted one of our monthly snow surveys near Deadfall Lake today to assess the amount of snow and its water content. The data collected is crucial to forecasting how much water will be available for downstream users in the Trinity and Sacramento watersheds.
From 5,500 feet up to 8,000 feet, the snowpack is supportable under foot. There is a melt-freeze crust on most aspects and elevations, though it softened quickly with the warm temperatures today. The bonding and reactivity of this interface will be one to pay attention to during the incoming snow and wind event.

Building clouds, no precipitation. Warm temperatures stayed above freezing throughout the day. Southerly wind increased from light in the morning to moderate, gusting strong by the afternoon.
