Quick report

Conditions at Castle Lake are good for this time of year and riding is achievable on all aspects near and below treeline. No recent avalanche activity was observed. Surface conditions of wet snow and melt freeze crusts continue to evolve with the permitting weather.

Very steep terrain on south aspects holds the highest likelihood of finding unstable snow.

Snowpack

Castle Lake is holding good snow coverage at this time, with a snow height of 35 inches on a south aspect near treeline. Do note that the lake is not totally frozen over in some areas.

Southerly aspects sheltered from the wind, hosts 10-15 cm of damp surface snow, and large roller balls were easily initiated with a ski turn mid-slope. On true north aspects, or extremely shaded aspects, soft dry snow is still preserved.
