Quick report
Today, forecasters paid a long-overdue visit to the east side of the forecast region off Military Pass to assess snow conditions. Observations were limited to below treeline. 100 cm (40") of snow has fallen since February 1st. The main takeaway was an upside-down snowpack structure observed on all aspects just below and above 6,500 feet. This is a similar structure to the one recently observed on Mount Shasta. While no signs of instability were seen, stability tests did result in propagation on a crust layer 45 cm (17”) down from the surface. Boot penetration was to the crotch, confirming the punchy and unsupportable nature of the snow.

The day was met with misty clouds engulfing the mountain tops and early morning snow showers. Over the course of the day skies partially cleared, providing decent visibility. Temperatures remained near to below freezing levels with calm wind.
