Quick report
We toured from WMR towards Skook Peak, OZ, & Dorthy. We toured and skied on N and S aspects in terrain up to up to 6895 ft. The snowpack appeared to be quite stable in the zones we explored. We saw no signs of instability. I did observe the debris of a few small (D1) point releases in the upper elevations of the Skook Chutes. These did not propagate , nor did they "step down". These appeared to have released yesterday (?). I dug several informal hand pits and made many "aggressive skin track switchback stomps". These appeared to show that the upper portion of the snowpack was unconsolidated below a thin (~1-2 cm), yet stout (pencil + hardness) rime/ freezing rain crust that now caps the snowpack with ~1cm of new snow on top. The crust is translucent and breakable. It was present on all aspects and across the entire elevation band (it is everywhere) of our tour. No signs of wind transported snow... Snow available for transport went from "lots" to "almost none" with the arrival of the January 4 crust.
