Decided to check out the snowpack in upper White Pine this morning. Temperatures were slightly warmer than expected and the skies were mostly clear with a few scattered clouds. I dug a pit on a north facing slope near the bottom of the Birthday chutes at 9,400ft. An Extended Column Test produced a failure that propagated cleanly across the column after 13 shovel taps. The failure occurred on a layer of facets sitting above a crust around 20cm below the surface. (ECTP-13)
