The snow surfaces were weaker than we were expecting. Southerly-facing slopes never warmed up, and there was roughly an inch of cold, dry snow on top of an old melt-freeze crust. The snow surface has weakened on the shady aspects in the wind protected areas, and small grain faceted snow could pose a problem this week. Overall, the surfaces have gotten weak, and it will be worth keeping an eye on them with the incoming snow and weather this week.

Snowpack

Highly variable snow surfaces out there. However, one can still find soft settled powder in the most wind and sun-sheltered slopes.
