Quick report

Snowmobiled in on a mostly snow covered Trail 11 (dust over ice) and headed in to the SE end of the lava flow and explored along the bottom of the East Ridge. Seems like we got about an inch of new dry snow that has been blow around quite a bit and is collecting in lee sides of ridges for some nice riding. I was able to find the 2/14 buried surface hoar and 2/8 buried facet layers, and it seems the warming over the past few days has been helping these layers continue to trend towards inactive. This type of persistent slab avalanche problem is so tricky because it is so hard to know when it is actually fully inactive. Even as this is trending in that direction it still requires a level of heightened awareness (low probability but HIGH consequence).
